Slanderers, Are We Gulity?

When I was at work yesterday, I noticed where someone had written something against President Bush on one of the engines on our train. I'm sure that you have probably heard or seen statements made against our leaders. We probably are all guilty of this to some degree.

If you slander someone, you can divide a friendship, Proverbs; 16:27-28 (A worthless man digs up evil, While his words are like scorching fire. A perverse man spreads strife, And a slanderer separates intimate friends.) Slander can ruin families, friends, business deals, the list is endless. We are told not to have anything to do with a slanderer. Proverbs; 20:19 ( He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, Therfore do not associate with a gossip.)

[Submit To Government]
God tells us to be subject to our leaders. Romans; 13:1-2 (Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resist the authority resist the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgement on them-selves.)

[ Pray For Our Leader]
Paul tells us in 1Timothy; 2:1-4 ( Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for Kings and all who are in athority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.) So we are to pray that our leaders will repent of their sins and come to saving knowledge of God. In this way they will be godly men and hopefully look to God for guidance in leading our nation.

It isn't easy when we have to accept things that we don't agree with or even like. Laws that are made that interfere with what we want in life. We are all guilty of it. So we go around expressing our dislike and trying to get others on our side, so we can sway their opinion.

I know that there ruthless leaders in some countries, and I don't agree with what they do. I do know that they will give account to God for their actions. Romans; 14:10-12 (But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. For it is written,"AS I LIVE SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD." So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God.) Pretty sobering isn't it?

I pray as godly men and women, that we will refrain from slander and gossip. So the next time anyone of us wants to trash our leaders or anyone else, we need to remember that we will give an account to God one day.

God Bless You
