Wisdom, Heavenly Or Earthly?

You probably know someone who seems to have a lot of wisdom. They might know a lot about life and have a higher education, but are they really as wise as they seem? Most of us know a little about a lot of things and a lot about a few things. What and where should our priority be when it comes to being wise?

The Scripture talks a lot about being wise and having wisdom. We get that knowledge and wisdom from studying God's Word. Wisdom can be broken down into categories.

[Wisdom:]- 1. Knowledge-accumulated philosophic or scientific learning.
2. Insight-ability to discern inner qualities and relationships.
3. Judgment-good sense.

We might all have one or more of these qualities and hopefully use them as God would want us to . Where do we get these qualities and where do we begin. First we should pray and ask God for spiritual wisdom so that we can explain the Scriptures to others. Of course to be able to do this you have to be studying the Bible. We will start out in Proverbs.

Proverbs;1:7(The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.) We need to have a true fear of the living God. We need reverential awe and admiration for God.
Proverbs;2:6(For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth comes knowledge and understanding;) Here again we see that to gain wisdom and knowledge we need to look to God.

If we are to understand the Scriptures, we need to have the Holy Spirit to help explain them. This doesn't mean that an unbeliever cannot understand some of the Scripture, but to have a deep understanding of what God's will is, you need the Holy Spirit.
1Corinthians;2:10-12( But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.)

[Knowledge Of God]
Once again to gain this knowledge we need to be in God's Word.
Colossians;1:9-10(For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.)
The more we draw near to Him, the more He will draw near to us. When you love God, you want to know all you can about Him and His will for you.
Colossians;3:16(Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing on another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.) We are to fill ourselves up with the knowledge of the Lord, so that we will be able to share with others the good news of the gospel, and lead someone to Christ for salvation of their soul.
Colossians;4:5-6(Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.)

[All Scriptures]
2Timothy3:16-17(All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.)
So we see that all the Scriptures are form God and not from man.

[Ask In faith For Wisdom]
We are told to ask for wisdom from God, but we must believe that we will receive wisdom from God.
James;1:5-6(If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.)

[Earthly wisdom]
First we will deal with earthly wisdom.
James;3:14-16(But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.)

[Heavenly Wisdom]
James;3:17(But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. )
So the next time you think someone is wise, look at their life and see where that wisdom is working. Is it wisdom for man's work or is it wisdom for God's work?

I pray that you will ask for heavenly wisdom. If you haven't asked Jesus into your life, now is the right time. Just confess that you are a sinner, and believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and come into your life and save you. He says he will if you just ask and believe. Look at the change you've seen in your Christian brothers and sisters. He can do the same for you.

God Bless You!
